Kingston Region Division Presented Dave And Judy
Hardy
With the Keys To Their Disability-Equipped Van

In the winter of 2025/26, the Executive of the Kingston Region Division of the RCMP Veterans Association became aware that former RCMP member Dave Hardy and his wife Judy were facing significant personal and financial challenges. Judy lives with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and Dave recently turned 80 and still working, was struggling to transport her to necessary medical appointments. Everyday tasks such as getting groceries or visiting the bank had become extremely difficult. Moving his wheelchair‑bound spouse in his current vehicle was becoming a near impossible task that required more physical strength than he had some days.All members of the Kingston Region Division provided strong support throughout this process. Those directly involved included Vice‑President Doug Hardy (no relation to Dave), Treasurer John Francis, Ed Rockburne, Richard Dickins, Len Meilleur and Dot MacLaughlan. The initiative was further strengthened by the assistance of retired Deputy Commissioner Steve Graham of the RCMP Veterans Association.
During discussions in Halifax, Steve Graham mentioned the project and the plight of the Hardy’s to fellow Association member, retired Inspector Keith Sherwood. Sherwood, who also lives with MS advised that he was in the process of replacing his own disability‑equipped vehicle and generously offered to donate his current van to the Hardy’s.
The vehicle is a 2017 Dodge handicap‑accessible van with approximately 36,000 km. Sherwood included an updated power wheelchair as part of his gift to the Hardy’s, knowing that this extraordinary act of generosity would be life‑changing for Dave and Judy Hardy. Immediate steps were taken to arrange transportation of the van to Brockville.
The vehicle arrived on Monday July 13th, a formal handover of the keys took place on Wednesday, July 22nd followed by a luncheon at the Dairy Barn Restaurant in North Augusta, Ontario.
