David was a member of
RCMP Vets from 1996 to 2025

David Boyd
1940-06-16 - 2025-08-27
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Lord called David McCutcheon Boyd to be with
Him in His eternal Kingdom, releasing him from the grips of an incurable cancer
that had slowly hollowed his body, but never diminished his spirit. He met his
difficulties and limitations with grace and acceptance, and at his end he went
without fear.
Dave was born in Hamilton, Scotland in 1940, the 2nd oldest Boyd brother to
Andy, Bob and Ian, coming to Canada - Windsor, Ontario, in 1949. He was
predeceased by his parents Archibald and Margaret, as well as his brother Andy
(Peggy).
Dave lived a life of serving and protecting his community - he was a member of
the RCMP and CSIS, serving in Nova Scotia and Ottawa, and was an integral part
of the security detail for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He faced difficult
personal challenges; losing his first wife Greta (Hawboldt) in a car accident in
1968, and his second wife Jane (Matatall) in 1988, after her long battle with
MS.
He reconnected in 1995 with his high school sweetheart, Donna after the death of
her first husband, and they rediscovered the love they shared in high school.
They married in 1996, sharing 30 wonderful years of faith, family and community.
Dave continued to serve his new community in roles of leadership and guidance,
selflessly giving of his time and energy to those individuals or organizations
in need.
Dave leaves behind a large and loving blended family: his wife Donna, the "Boyd
kids" Ardeth and Pat (Kirkham), Kate and Ian; and the "Steel kids" Heather,
Sherri and Tim (Mallory), Susan and Graham (Edwards), and Brian and Michelle
(White). He was a proud Grandpa to Aidan and Lena (Derek); Brandon, Jacob
(Kelli) and Hilary (Simon); Erica (Frieda); Alec (Katherine), Timothy and
Matthew; Eden (Charlie) and Brianna. Dave was blessed with the joy of
great-grandchildren as well: James, Jonathon, and Loralei; Mackenzie, Ben and
Brooklyn, and Abby and Jamie.
On August 22, Dave was able to enjoy a beautiful day at his favourite place on
Kennebec Lake surrounded by family and friends, thanks to the wonderful support
of the care team at Providence Transitional Care Centre, who provided exemplary
care and compassion for Dave during his months there. The trip was made possible
by the Holy Family Transport team, whose kindness and understanding made the
experience possible for Dave.
